Students in my room are choosing the best way for each of them to sit and learn. Every Monday students will be able to choose from wobble chairs, cushions, bean bag chair, floor chairs or desk and chair to help them feel comfortable or safe in our classroom community. This gives them a sense of security and calmness, which in turn allows them to feel safe enough to try new things. Allowing children to choose where they sit provides a safe place for them to learn to take responsibility for their learning. Research also show that flexible seating allows student to move as the bodies craves movement increasing their focus and learning. Calmness, movement without disrupting others, and learning responsibility in a caring classroom community means happier students who are ready to take on their 2nd grade year with success!
