My diverse class of 26 is made up of 12 sixth- and 14 fifth-grade children. These students in the Highly Capable Program have great attitudes toward learning, tend to be extraordinarily creative, and love to discuss! Some have never been beyond our State of Washington, while others make regular trips to Asia. Our school is located in a suburban area. Two students in the class walk to school, but the majority ride a school bus daily. Some come early to sing in the choir, to serve on Safety Patrol, or to participate in Chess Club, PE Club, or Student Council. Most students in the class are involved in extracurricular activities such as playing on a sports team or taking music lessons. The majority of the students live in single-family homes in stable neighborhoods. It is likely that our year-end roster will be identical to that with which we began. This stability helps us develop a close sense of community within the walls of our classroom.
