My school is a Title I school serving a diverse student population. Many of my students do not have any practical lab experience and I am determined to change that! My students want to learn science. They ask intriguing questions and many can relate science themes to their lives. Two of my classes are ELL - with two full time interpreters for Spanish and Creole speaking students. Sometimes I cannot cover the content in one day that I would normally in the other classes so these two classes have had their fair share of "homework." What impressed me the most was when I had 100% participation in completing a homework assignment from 25 students - every one did their homework paper on water! I was almost in tears when I was collecting the papers. The effort they put in and the attempt to learn the material has motivated me personally to try and overcome the language barriers in the science curriculum.
