My students come from an economically diverse, close-knit community, where helping neighbors in need often hits close to home. Those in the DHS Art Club are especially giving of their time and enthusiasm as we strive to link art with the community. The Art Club community service project "Empty Bowls" is just one example of how my students contribute through their art. Just last year, this hunger-awareness project raised over $1,000 for two local food pantries. It has also helped create a strong interest in forming a HS sculpture program. The funding of specialized equipment is not supported by an ever-dwindling school budget, and will require help from a community much larger than our own.
