This is a very poor school in California. These students who attend a title 1 school in a low income neighborhood, where crime is a daily obstacle they must face. These are students who have come from very difficult family situations, but still make it to school... School is their safe haven from the world. These are students who come to school without backpacks, school supplies or new clothing. They come to school to learn as much as possible and work very hard while they are in the classroom. These are students that experience bullying in some form on a daily basis. These are students who help raise and take care of their brothers and sisters in the evenings, and becomes a reason homework is hard to get done. These are students that need more time developing basic skills: phonics, math facts, sight words, and language in general. But these are students who with the right support can make a change for themselves and their neighborhood.
