I am a Kindergarten teacher at a Title 1 school where over 95% receive free lunch. The majority are ESL (English as Second Language) students and have either both parents working split shifts or are from single parent homes. Many do not have anyone to read to them and they CRAVE stories. Every morning, I am begged to read "just 1 more" before we move on to our lessons. (I ALWAYS give in because, when a child is so eager and desires reading and stories...FEED it! Then watch it grow!) My entire class of emergent readers is needing some independence with listening to stories, and that is where the Listening Center would benefit ALL of the class.
