We have an increasing number of Hispanic and Latina students in our school. Many of them speak Spanish and English, but reading in a second (or third) language is difficult. Plus, studies show that students who read in their home language will actually increase the rate at which they learn a new language. We have found that this population is also at highest risk for discipline problems, so giving them a better option is a priority for us.

About my class
