Students at my Title I elementary school come from low-income households and many come from homes where English is spoken as a second language (or not spoken at all.) Many of these homes do not have books and children are not exposed to extensive vocabulary. Our school uses Title I federal funds to provide after-school tutoring and parent/student literacy activities. Our students are eager to learn and work hard to achieve successes in academics and physical education.
