My students are a dynamic, hilarious, resilient group of teenagers from inner city Houston. While their neighborhood friends simply want to graduate from high school; my students want to graduate from college. Most of my students also plan to graduate with masters and doctorate degrees. They endure an extremely long school day and grueling course work so they will be prepared for college and life beyond college. Despite the challenges in their home lives, we do not allow our students to make excuses; instead, we help them focus on their locust of control. We encourage them to focus on their future so they can begin to visualize the lives they want for themselves now.
