My students are loving children in a small, rural community. Our school is a K-8 school in which students grow up together in small classes throughout their school careers. The teachers become very attached to their students and have a vested interest in helping each child achieve high goals so they can be successful adults that positively influence our community. My students learn better when they interact with their peers and when they can learn math in a hands-on method. With our school beginning Common Core mathematics standards next year, our students will be expected to perform at a higher level. Some students currently feel less than motivated to rise to this challenge. I believe that by making my math classes more interactive and engaging, I can help students learn mathematics better and be more successful.
