According to Victorian art critic John Ruskin, "Fine art is that in which the hand, the head, and the heart of man go together..." but this year our preschoolers' artistic hands have been stilled. Ironically, the longer school day has eliminated preschool's weekly art classes, and now we must adapt. This year's Preschoolers love school and can't wait to engage in our classroom routines each day. While many of them qualify for free or reduced lunch, and some face serious challenges outside of school time, all are serious about their school experience and embrace the challenges our classroom offer. Our goal as teachers is to make the students' limited school hours as rich as possible by offering experiences they may not otherwise have. Our school tries hard to support each class' needs, but in these lean times there are limits to what any school can afford.
