My students are incredibly enthusiastic and excited individuals who are eager to change the mentality of our music program into something to really be proud of. Our HS is in a high poverty area where students live sometimes 40 miles away and don't come to school because of family duties. In years past, music students have been given hand-me-down, broken instruments that do not benefit their education and students don't even know what half the instruments are in the percussion world because they've never seen them. In order to supply 15 students across 2 different concert bands, they need to have a variety of instruments and hardware that are durable and can produce a quality sound. It is not acceptable that our students should be limited to what music they can play based on instruments we don't have. My students will be forever grateful to anyone who takes the time to improve their percussion section and improve our entire music program as a whole.
