My students work really hard to make ceramic sculptures and functional ware way beyond their years. Their ability to draw on myth, literature and emotion in their work always surprises and delights me. I am convinced it is essential for all students to have a successful experience building, making and creating art works that reflect their experiences. Many of my students are hardworking scientists, where the chemistry, model making and general mark making of ceramics rounds out their education. English and math students find historical references, poetry and formulaic drawing that illuminate their works.
