I am interested in building a brighter, more organized and interesting classroom by color coding all of our classroom activities. In preparation for middle school, I currently have my students use a color coding system to help identify content areas quickly. For example, when it is reading time, students are directed to take out their red folders and red notebooks. Items are easily identified by color and it allows for quicker and more effective transitions. What if students were now able to easily identify all papers associated with a particular content area too? I want to begin color coding their classwork as well. When students receive a math practice sheet, it will now be blue instead of white! Students will be excited to get the colored paper sheets and this will help motivate them. Additionally, they will be able to quickly identify their work based upon color. I know that all teachers have those students who need to work on organizational skills. Many desks are cluttered with white papers. Desks contain notices, math work, reading work, etc. Now my students will be to identify and file their work and doing so, will help those students who have difficulties with organization, neatness, taking and bringing back work from home.
