As the Spanish teacher in a dual-language school I have 40 students who each spend half of their day with me learning in Spanish and half of their day learning in English with my co-teacher. The students are primarily Hispanic, however we do have a number of students learning Spanish as a second language. We are a Title I school, where 87% of students receive free or reduced-price lunch. Unfortunately, because most of my students come from low-income families their exposure to books and other academic materials at home is limited. Still, all of my students are extremely energetic and love coming to school. While some are more academically advanced than others, they assist one another with classroom tasks, are eager to set an example for one another, and the smiles on their faces as they soak up praise for a job well-done are priceless. As their teacher (and a first-year teacher, at that), I don't think I could be any luckier!
