I never took a class called "Intensive Reading" in high school, and I imagine that most people reading this did not either. Intensive Reading for Re-takers is a class taken by 11th grade students who did not pass the 10th grade Reading FCAT last year. They generally dislike reading because they have not yet mastered "good reading strategies" and they don't believe that reading has anything to offer them. So while they believe they dislike reading, what I am prepared to show them is how magical stories can be. I want to show them that you can literally get lost in another world. They are all so smart and eager to learn; now all I need to do is give them a resource that will guarantee they will become readers for life.
