Our school is one of the lowest achieving schools in our district. My students come from low income status households. The population at our school is completely diverse with almost exclusively African-American and Hispanic students (99%). Many students in my class are non-English speakers/English language learners. Our school offers support to struggling families such as free breakfast and lunch programs and parent workshops. Coming to school often is the best part of my students' days. Kindergarten is, for many of my students, their first exposure to structured education and needs to be fun as well preparing them academically to stay in school. Most have not been to preschool.
