Almost 70% of our school population are beneficiaries of assistance of some kind. We are a large public school in an urban area. The students we serve come to us from poverty and often single parent homes. We also serve a very large Burmese population, which brings interesting challenges in itself. Many of our Burmese friends come to us with limited skills, but incredible drive. In spite of the conditions in which some of our children live, they thrive at our school. We provide an atmosphere that is warm, loving, challenging and supportive. We love our students and many of us think of them as our own children. We hold them to high standards and expect everyone to learn. We have been successful in that venture, this year making AYP and receiving a report card grade of an A. The staff is committed to continuing to strive to bring challenging and thoughtful instruction to all of our students.
