I teach at a small school in Tennessee. The area that I live and teach in has a very low socioeconomic status. Many of my students have parents who are either unemployed or cannot get a job due to the lack of education they themselves have. Although our school does receive funding, it is not nearly the amount needed to truly give these students the classroom tools they need to make them better learners. The group of students I have are probably the hardest working students I have seen in a long time. They try their hardest at all that they do and I am extremely proud of them for it. Their reading levels range from a kindergarten reading level all the way up to a tenth grade reading level. With such a diverse range, it is often difficult to find activities that will challenge and engage all areas. Because so many of my students have parents who either will not or cannot help them, it is important to have a variety of educational tools available to reach each child in my classroom.
