My students attend a public school in a small, rural community. Our community is comprised of mainly middle to lower class families many of whom are led by a single female. Furthermore, approximately 21 percent of families live below the poverty level. Books in the home are a luxury that many of these students can not afford. Therefore, it is the school's obligation to provide these students with the tools to become better readers.
