My kids are absolutely brilliant. They are so engaged with and curious about the natural world, which translates into a deep love of science. As a writing and science teacher, it is so heartwarming to see every hand in the air during our science lessons. Unfortunately though, when my kids are fascinated by a specific topic, they do not have the resources to continue their research on their own outside of class. We do not have a library in my school and I do not have the resources to provide my kids with all of the books that they could possibly devour, although I wish that I did. Additionally, my kids are growing up in a low income community where there is little access to educational resources. Although our school is a loving place where kids absolutely feel safe and part of a secure and caring community, this absence of a library leaves a deep gap in their educational trajectories.
