My students are joyful, resilient children attending a high-poverty school in North Carolina. They desire to achieve at the same level as students all over the country but at times lack the necessary resources. Many of my students begin the year already 1-2 grade levels behind. Some find reading to be difficult and often don't have access to check out or buy books that they are interested in. My students deserve the same opportunities as every other child in our country and giving them books that they actually like is a great way to get them excited and motivated about reading. They love football, basketball, and cheerleading. They love reading about people like them, they love reading about success stories and things they can become and dreams they can achieve.
