My students live in a middle-class, rural area. The ethnic diversity at our school is almost non-existent. I have a quote next to my bookshelves in my classroom that says, "Anyone who says they have only one life to live must not know how to read a book." I LOVE teaching World Literature to Sophomores because it allows these "culturally ignorant teenagers" to "TRAVEL" to different parts of the world and discover a couple of things: 1. Other CULTURES in the world are very different from our own. 2. Other PEOPLE in the world are not so different from us.
