The overwhelming majority of our students receive free/reduced lunch. Many do not attend Pre-K and are not exposed to a lot of reading and writing before they begin school. Many of the children I teach are very needy, not only academically, but emotionally as well. I become like a second mother to them. Many have parents who are in jail or just unable to care for them.
