I have some real characters in my school, in spite of the low income status that comes with 98% free and reduced lunch eligibility. African Americans comprise 90% of the student body. We are on the outskirts of a small city with all the activity and distraction that comes with city life. Our school is a Micro-society concept school with its focus on the totality of what makes society work. The entire Pre-K through 5 student body was trailered while our new building was being erected. Consequently, there was no kiln-fired clay instruction available since our kiln was unavailable. We used air dried clay with unsatisfactory results. This year we will have a kiln and space to begin our art marketing project.
