Our classroom library provides my students with a wide range of reading materials from which to choose for independent reading. Students are more likely to read at home if they have started reading a book at school, so we read independently at the beginning of class every day. Books can be mirrors in which students can see themselves and windows through which they can see and better understand the lives of people who are different from them. This project will increase the diversity of the books in my classroom library so students can broaden their horizons through self-selected independent reading.
