My goal for my second graders this year is to learn to love reading. Grossly underdeveloped literacy skills in my Louisiana primary school are keeping my students well behind grade level. Desperate socioeconomic circumstances in the community and school have made catching these students up a true challenge. With little or no disposable income, my students and their families do not have home libraries to nurture excitement for reading or literacy skills. Therefore, the only exposure they have to literature is at school, and more specifically, in my classroom. My students are eager to learn! Please help them!
