The students in my classroom are a caring group of kids who are searching. They want someone to mentor them and to be a role model. Children can tell if someone cares about them. These kids know they have a teacher who cares about them. My classroom is comprised of English Language Learners, Gifted and Talented, primarily free and reduced lunch students with a diverse culture of Hispanics, African American, Caucasian, Asian, and Native American. I taught these students in 4th grade and I am "looping" with them into 5th grade. So, I already know their abilities and interests. They need a new class library to keep them engaged in reading.
