My students attend a small town school with a high poverty rate. I have a diverse group of students in my first grade class. The majority of students come from low socioeconomic backgrounds where working parents aren't able to find as much time as they would like to cultivate an interest in reading. Many enter my classroom barely meeting or below grade level.
