My students attend a magnet school in North Carolina. At least 70% of them are on free or reduced lunch, and many of them have jobs in addition to school. Despite these challenges, I have motivated, bright students who are already taking responsibility and control of their futures. In our classroom, we have several big goals. By the end of the year, every single student will pass their state exam, meet their targeted growth goal, read at or above grade level, complete a practice college application, and feel empowered by the English language. Each of this goals boil down to one thing: literacy.

About my class
