I teach in a school that borders a large city. I am involved in many voluntary programs in my inclusive school that enhance the educational experiences of my children. My students are a diverse group of learners. They are diverse in their academic abilities. I teach children with a vast array of strengths and weaknesses. Their diversity also applies to their cultural backgrounds. My students come from a wide range of home situations. Some live with families who value education and are able to provide their child with academic support at home. These children benefit from reading with family members. Others do not have that luxury. They live with a parent trying hard to provide the basics by working long hours with little time for anything but necessities. Some of my children come to school with supplies and warm clothing, while others do not. I want every child to have what they need to become a lifelong learner.
