Teacher of the Year: Mrs. Tsao

Share:

Since 2010, Mrs. Tsao has been an all-star DonorsChoose.org teacher. Due to her hard work and dedication, she has had numerous projects funded on our site and her high-need California classroom has received resources and gained new experiences. It came as no surprise to us when she was announced as Teacher of the Year by Mayor Jim Dear.Mrs. Tsao began her teaching career after graduating from Loyola Marymount University with a BA in Psychology. While working as a part-time teacher's assistant at an elementary school, Mrs. Tsao heard her "calling" as an educator. She was hired as a full-time teacher in 1998 and has been working at the same school ever since. DonorsChoose.org reached out to Mrs. Tsao to learn more about her career:Q: What do you love most about teaching?A: I love knowing that I can make a difference in each child's life. I also enjoy bringing the world to them through real-life application of skills and knowledge.Q: What was your most memorable DonorsChoose.org project?A: I have had several great projects funded through DonorsChoose.org, from classroom rugs to technology, but the ones I believe my students enjoyed and learned the most from are the field trips. Last year, the generous donors of DonorsChoose.org made it possible for my second graders to visit the Discovery Science Center. Not only did the children enjoy themselves, but also the parents that accompanied us were enlightened with what the museum had to offer. This year, I had the opportunity to take my Pre-K students to the Centennial Farm. The experience and knowledge my students learned that day is priceless!Mrs. Tsao's aims high and says, "It is my ultimate goal to cultivate these young children into well-educated and high functioning adults.” We applaud this goal and this much deserved award. Congratulations, Mrs. Tsao!
