Guest Blogger: Ms. Kelly PateBlog: ThirstyFirstiesStandardized testing, evaluations, more testing…these are the reasons many choose to teach. Right? Wrong! In an ever-changing and stressful profession, sometimes we have to slow down and remember why we chose to do what we do.For myself, I have always wanted to be a teacher. As a young girl, I remember coming home from school, doing my homework, and then playing school until dinner. I, of course, always played the role of teacher.I had many teachers, professors, and other mentors that have helped make me the teacher I am today. There was one teacher, my second grade teacher, that made me say, “This is what I want to be when I grow up.” She made learning captivating and memorable. But the thing that she did every day, with every student, was make each one feel important, smart, and loved. So even among the standardized testing, evaluations, and more, I choose each day to be a teacher…why? Because every day, I have the chance to make a child feel important, smart, and loved.
