This year I'm teaching a Science and Technology class centered around flight. The students are learning how to design, build, and then fly remote controlled model aircraft. They don't even realize the technical knowledge they are gaining because they are loving what they are doing. Not only are they learning about the science involved with flight, but they are gaining real-world skills such as independent problem solving, team work, workplace safety, and communication that will help them be successful with their transition to post high school life. This project will help my students take their learning to the next level. The camera drone will allow my students to learn about how the physics of fixed wing flight compared to that of multi-rotor flight as well as give them additional real world technical and business experience. After the students master aerial photography, the students will create a business plan to rent the drone and their skills out to other administrators, teachers or coaches in the district. Aerial photography is a fast growing field with real employment potential and this project will expose my students to this cutting edge technology as well as the business aspect of the profession. Not only that, but the aviation field in this area is booming and there are more jobs available than there are qualified candidates. Please help me give my special needs students the skills they need to fill these high paying jobs.
