My students attend a small rural school with less than 120 students in Kindergarten through 12th grade. They have limited access to technology, with most of them coming from economically disadvantaged homes. They are accustomed to working on farms and ranches and therefore thrive in a “hands-on” learning environment. Many have limited experiences outside of their environment. Some have never traveled more than 100 miles from their homes. Many do not have computers in their homes; those that do often do not have Internet connections. Even cell phone coverage is limited. For most of them their only exposure to the technology used outside of their world is at school. All of the students in the school participate in sports, academic competitions, and community service events. They are truly active members of their community. Many are the third generation attending this school. These kids are bright and eagerly embrace learning when new technology is incorporated.
