My students are wonderful but unfortunately they are growing up in a very impoverished part of Chicago. 100% of them qualify for free lunch. Our breakfast and lunch are often the only meals that they eat each day. They live in a community where violence and mayhem are the norm and most of them are affiliated with gangs. My inspiration is watching them grow each day and I truly believe that college is an option for all of them.
