I am the library media specialist at a rural Mississippi high school. Our school is working hard to improve graduation rates and prepare students for college. We found through examining state test data that our school needs a greater emphasis on reading. Teachers at our school believe that the key to student success in high school and college is strong reading comprehension. We have implemented the Accelerated Reader and Lexile programs to reinforce student reading. Our local library has been plagued with leaking problems and black mold since Hurricane Katrina. This has caused them to lose thousands of dollars in books. Consequently, our students rely primarily on our school library for reading and research materials.

"Wow! I hadn't been online for a few days while some wonderful donors slipped in to fund this project. I think this has been the largest number of donors to ever fund one of my projects. It shows how people working together can accomplish great things. My library will open in less than two weeks. The students will be treated to a display of wonderful culturally relevant fiction. Thank you so much to all of you for your help in fulfilling this dream for our library!"
