My students attend a Title I school. This is a school where the majority of student's families are low income. Low academic achievement often goes hand in hand with poverty. Yet my students are proof that the achievement gap can be closed with hard work, belief in self, and fierce dedication. Many of them are just embracing a love of reading. They go in search of quality literature. However, they complain that there are not enough books on their new reading level. I do not want them to be discouraged from reading or to settle for books that no longer provide rigor. I want them to practice reading on their new levels and to solidify and hone their reading skills!
