I teach special education students in a low-income school. More than half of the students I serve don't speak English as a first language and come from single-family homes. My students have a wide range of disabilities ranging from developmental delays to severe autism. However, I want to focus more on what my student's CAN do! My students are hard workers. They track their own progress and love to make improvements. I'm pushing really hard to improve their independence now, which will ultimately improve their confidence. Through visual supports and modified work, I am allowing the students to be more successful throughout their entire school day without relying on adult support.
