My students are feisty freshmen! They are so fun to teach because they are curious, funny, thoughtful, and excited about learning new things. I love drawing them in with cool video clips about current events or weird trivia. Once I've got their attention, they make learning a piece of cake because they ask me questions that lead me right into teaching our lesson for the day. I gave a survey at the beginning of the year and found that only about 6% of them are audio learners. That means classical teaching, lecturing, won't be as effective as hands on activities, labs, and manipulatives. This year more than ever, I've seen my students make connections to the lessons. This has allowed them to really understand material and learn it instead of just rote memorization. I hear from parents at Open House and throughout the year that they love my class, it is their favorite all day. I think appealing to their natural curiosity is both fun for me as a teacher and exciting for them as students.
