Book 4 is probably on a shelf at Borders. Unfortunately, we've seen our Barnes and Noble and the two closest Borders stores close in the last year. Gary, Indiana is certainly not the mecca of literacy, and it sends me scrambling to far suburbs when kids need new books. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE that I have voracious readers. I dream of classes full of kids like these, the ones who read the first book of a series like Hunger Games or Sharon Draper's trilogy and are hooked, line and sinker. They come to me with my copies of books, dog eared and sometimes damp (no idea), begging for the next text like the literary junkies I've encouraged them to become. What more can a teacher ask for? This enthusiasm keeps me driving far from my home to spend too much money on books for a cause I am proud to champion.

I was just talking to one of my 8th grade girls about this book. She's reading another short novel by the same author and when I brought up "The First Part Last," her eyes got big and she whispered, "The one with the boy with the dreads on the cover?" So the book has already made its impression, for one reason or another. :)
