My students attend a public school in which 85% of the students receive free and/or reduced price meals for both breakfast and lunch. The 24 students in my class are from a low socio-economic background. The majority of students at my school are limited English speakers whose home language is Spanish. Several of my students come from homes in which little or no English is spoken. Our surrounding neighborhood has a large residential area but is also zoned for heavy industry, oil refineries, rail yards, and warehouse storage. Gang activity in the area is also a factor in crime reporting. Many of the students in my class do not have a computer in their home. For many of my students the only time they use a computer is when they are at school. We have three computers in our classroom and a computer lab that we attend once a week.
