My students are bright and curious NYC public school children who are eager to learn and stretch their minds. They, along with their families, are feeling the effects of our current economic climate. Most are from very low income families and the first generation of their family to be born in the United States. These children are enthusiastic about learning and deserve to have access to the kinds of materials that will inspire them and set their imaginations free. Their potential is limitless if they are given the opportunity to develop their skills, their talents, and their dreams. They have already shown an amazing eye for color and a thirst for artistic expression through their weaving and knitting, something I taught them beginning the first day of school using materials I have gathered over the years as a classroom teacher and a fiber artist.
