I have 15 fifth grade drummers whose biggest dream is to practice and perform in a drumline and I am helping to make it a reality. Our school serves 330 PreK through 5th graders and is located in Central City. Because we meet for daily one-hour classes, 5th graders have learned to play piano, drums, and read music. Since my first day, my kids have been asking about drumline. After auditioning this past month, 15 students were accepted and signed contracts with their parents, promising to maintain respectful behavior throughout school and adequate progress in their academic performance. Almost all of them receive special education services and/or have emotional/behavioral disorders.
