Neil deGrasse Tyson said,"Scientific inquiry shouldn't stop just because a reasonable explanation has apparently been found." There are many things we can teach by simply telling students how things work. Science is something they can explore and make their own reasons about how the world works!
Welcome to pre-K!
Come on in! We ask that you be respectful to those around you as well as the materials you play with. Language isn't an issue here; we're confident you'll pick it up quickly. We learn through play and exploration so you're required to bring your curiosity and imagination. Have fun!
Our kids are young, ambitious, and curious but there's darkness lurking about that's much too serious. Pre-k is a time to explore and play, to imagine and create until the end of the day.
But the trouble that's looming seems to be blooming. Academic rigor! Academic rigor! They're telling us to grow up much much quicker. They want to prepare us to be college ready. We want to go to college, but at a pace that's steady.
Our parents can't help us of the troubles that's lurking, it's not their fault! They're too busy working!
It's up to you to help us keep our childhood we're about to lose, you wonderful people, the people of DonorsChoose!
My Project
In our school, pre-k does not formally have gym, art, music, or science. Gym, art, and music are subjects that can be embedded into our pre-k curriculum. Unfortunately, science is something that's more difficult to embed due to the lack of materials.
Our current resources help foster and cultivate our students' scientific mindset. But the possibilities of science are endless. There is so much to explore and the new school year has brought new students with new interests.
My new students LOVE dinosaurs. I want to use the dinosaur toys to create a center to explore the different types of pre-historic creatures in a diorama. The bins will serve as different habitats where different animals lived.
Four-year-olds have a hard time understanding the concept of time. The interest in dinosaurs will eventually help us segue into the animals that currently inhabit earth. Your assistance will help us create young investigators.
Education is always lacking in math and science in the United States.
If we nurture and cultivate curious scientific minds at a young age, there will be more interest in these subjects later on.
I hope to create children who grow up asking more questions about the world instead of learning answers to questions we already know.
