My students need running shorts for their uniforms. This past year we used basketball shorts because we didn't have our own. We would greatly appreciate your help!

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
For some of my students, participating in cross country was the first time they had ever been on a team. It was the first time they ever felt like they belonged. It didn't matter if they were in the 7th grade or Sophomores, these students found a family within the Warrior Runners!
These student-athletes are incredibly hard working and talented individuals!
Not only do they take their participation in Cross Country very seriously, but also their grades and their futures.
My team consists of 7th-10th graders, mostly Hispanic, many first generation Americans with hopes of becoming first generation college graduates! These athletes came to me with varying abilities and experience in running, but still gave 100% effort every day.
Western School of Science and Technology is a small charter school that focuses on STEM education and college preparation. Athletics play a huge role in that, therefore my coworker and I decided to provide a Cross Country team this year. We had a very successful and fun first season. In particular, our girl's team took home two 3rd place trophies, one 1st place trophy and finished 4th overall at the state competition!
My Project
We are requesting shorts to match our uniform tops for both the girls and boys teams. This past year we used the basketball shorts as our uniform bottoms. If you've ever tried to run a race in basketball shorts, you know this is less than ideal. Running long distances requires shorter, more light weight material in order to help with performance. This will also help us look more like a team and increase the students' pride in their school and selves.
Last year the Cross Country athletes felt like they were left out and not taken as seriously as some of the other sports.
They felt frustrated by not having their own uniforms. I want them to know that running is just as important as any other sport out there. I want them to feel pride in themselves for participating in such a difficult activity. I want them to confidently represent their school with pride no matter where they go. I believe having matching uniforms will help make this possible.
