Do you remember when someone would tell you to make sure you colored in the lines or wrote on the lines? Sometimes learning needs to be done outside of the lines. IdeaPaint creates any surface into a dry erase board.
My students are first graders who love any chance to work together.
They often show their work in a variety of ways - drawing pictures, writing in words, making patterns, etc. If they could use a larger surface to work, their creativity would be limitless. The students in my classroom love any chance to be innovative. If their thoughts were not contained to a small sheet of paper and they had the chance to show their thinking for all the class to see on a dry erase working area, they would jump at the opportunity. They love to have an idea and then work together to make it better. Our school is a public school with a variety of economic and academic ranges. This creates a perfect representation of every day society.
My Project
Students' lives will be changed by the use of IdeaPaint. It will foster creativity and most of all it will allow for teamwork. Students will have larger work areas in which they can work with others without having to take turns passing their paper around. They can monopolize a large table that has been painted with the dry erase paint or a section of a wall. Then they can start putting their thoughts on the board. If their thinking takes a drastic change, they can easily wipe away portions and start fresh. The information can also be kept up for longer periods of time so that students can teach other what they have completed. Students will learn to convey their creativity in a variety of ways and to work as a team to better their own learning and their groups' learning.

They need opportunities to "think outside the lines." My students need a chance to work in an environment that is not stifling to their growth. Students not only learn more when they work with others, but they attain valuable life skills that can and will be used throughout their academic and career lives.
