This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach Kindergarten in a high poverty area.

Many of my students receive free lunch and still more of them are learning English as a second language. They are eager and enthusiastic little learners. They have mountains to climb and I believe it is my job to give them the tools to do so! Writing can be a difficult skill to master and one of the most important skills a person can have in life. My approach to writing with young children is to allow them to express their ideas while gently correcting grammar and syntax. I believe if they feel confident as writers, they will go far.

My Project

I am requesting writing journals, pencils, a sentence-building center, an organizer, and spacers. These materials will give my students daily hands-on experiences with writing down their thoughts and help them learn how to put those thoughts together into sentences and paragraphs. These are the basic materials needed to effectively teach writing in a Kindergarten classroom.

Your help will ensure that my students have daily opportunities to write and improve as writers.

They will carry these skills throughout their lives and you will have made an impact! Thank you for supporting my project and helping my little ones to "Write On!"
