This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Many of my students enter kindergarten without even knowing how to write their name. This year I want to make writing fun and meaningful for them by allowing them to publish their own books!
My students are from the community of Ferguson, which has been suffering from unrest and instability due to a recent tragedy.
They are bright, amazing and talented children that just want to learn and be successful. They are very curious learners that love to discover and explore. They take great pride in their successes. Our school is made up of some incredible and caring teachers. We are committed to making this year the best one yet for our students!
My Project
My students will use the printer ink, copy paper, table top writing center and card stock daily to create and publish their writing into books. I think this is a great and therapeutic way for them to express emotions they may be having regarding the instability in the community. They can use lined news print to make their rough draft and then publish an official book of their own using our computer and printer.
The resources for this project will help my classroom because students will be able to share their thoughts and feelings daily through their writing.
Publishing their writing will help engage them, create excitement for writing, and give them something they can share at home with their families.
