My Students

I teach math and science, and coach archery, in an elementary school in North Louisiana that serves approximately 750 students, with about half of them qualifying as economically disadvantaged. Our English Language Learning group comes from homes that speak one of nine different languages. Our students work hard every year in their academics which leads us to be classified by the state as an "A" school! Our students also work hard to provide resources to people in our community that are in need. We are lucky to have such kind, caring, empathetic children that are focused on becoming the best they can be. Our school is also proud to serve military families and children of Barksdale Air Force Base. These children help diversify our population, even more, bringing knowledge, cultures, and information about communities their families have been stationed at and served.

My Project

My classroom is huge, but conventional. Kids aren't conventional. They love the openness of my classroom, but my seating leaves us feeling confined. I would love to get a set of the Flex-Space 16" Wobble Chairs to start introducing flexible seating to my students. I feel as though these chairs will be a nice stepping stone from the traditional seating of lab tables and blue plastic chairs to more flexible, comfortable options.

My kids are always moving, and I don't want traditional seating to hamper their ability to think, just because they can't move constructively.

I believe that these chairs will provide a great outlet for some of my students with accommodations for frequent breaks, preferential seating, and multi-sensory modes for teaching through Section 504 and Special Education. These chairs will give me a chance to allow those students the opportunity to get some of that energy out in a way that is not distracting or detrimental to their or their classmates' learning.
